RESULTS FROM COMPARABLE CREEP-TESTS

FROM MORE THAN 150 RESULTS OF CREEP-TESTS, WHICH WERE CARRIED OUR IN TWO SWISS COLLEGE LABORATORIES (ISETH AND EMPA) AND IN THE LABORATORY OF A CONSTRUCTION FIRM, IT IS SHOWN TO WHAT DEGREE THE STATIC CREEP-TEST PROVIDES A COMPARABLE QUALIFICATION FOR BITUMINOUS MIXES AND ALLOWS A JUDGMENT TO BE MADE FOR LAYING AND COMPACTION. THE TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT UNDER VARIOUS TEST CONDITIONS IN RESPECT OF TEMPERATURE AND LOADING AND WERE MADE PARTLY ON MARSHALL SAMPLES, PARTLY ON BORED CORES. PART OF THE INVESTIGATION SERVED TO TEST THE DEFORMATION BEHAVIOUR OF ASPHALT MIXES, IN WHICH SAMPLES FROM THE YEAR 1968 WERE COMPARED TO THOSE WITH INCREASED RESISTANCE TO DEFORMATION FROM THE YEAR 1975: TO THIS CHAPTER THERE ALSO IS A DESCRIPTION OF THE INVESTIGATIONS ON CARPETS WHICH HAD BEEN RESTORED AFTER WHEEL TRACKING HAD OCCURRED. OTHER INVESTIGATIONS HAD BEEN CONCERNED WITH THE TESTING OF ROAD BASES AND SURFACINGS IN WHICH THE BINDER CONTENT HAD BEEN THE PRINCIPAL VARYING FACTOR. FINALLY THE INFLUENCE OF A ONE- OR TWO-COURSE CONSTRUCTION FOR THE ROAD BASE, THE EFFECT OF TWO METHODS OF ROLLING, AND THE BEHAVIOUR OF MARSHALL SAMPLES, COMPACTED WITH A DIFFERENT NUMBER OF BLOWS, ARE INVESTIGATED.
