TESTS ON THE COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF CONCRETE IN STRUCTURES AND STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS

PRUEFUNG DER BETONDRUCKFESTIGKEIT AN BAUWERKEN UND BAUTEILEN

IF THE COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF CONCRETE IS TO BE ESTABLISHED FOR A STRUCTURE, DIN 1048 PART 2 1976 APPLIES. FOR NORMAL AND LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETES STRENGTH IS DETERMINED USING EXTRACTED SAMPLES (DESTRUCTIVE TEST), OR FOR NORMAL CONCRETE ONLY, BY NON-DESTRUCTIVE IMPACT TESTS. FOLLOWING OBSERVATIONS ON THE TESTING RANGE AND THE DISTRIBUTION OF MEASURING POINTS FOR OBTAINING REPRESENTATIVE TEST RESULTS AND OBSERVATIONS ON THE AGE AT TESTING, THE EXTRACTION OF CORES, THE TESTS PERFORMED ON THESE, AND THE EVALUATION AND ASSESSMENT OF THE RESULTS, ARE EACH DESCRIBED. FOR NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING THE IMPACT HAMMER AND THE (LESSER USED) BALL IMPACT HAMMER TESTS ARE CARRIED OUT IN THE NEW EDITION OF THE STANDARD. GUIDELINES FOR PERFORMING THE TESTS AND THEIR EVALUATION ARE GIVEN FOR THE IMPACT TEST. IN MANY CASES, FOR EXAMPLE WHEN INSUFFICIENT STRENGTHS ARE OBTAINED BY THE IMPACT TESTS, CORRECTION FACTORS CAN BE ESTABLISHED BY TESTS ON CORES. FOR THIS PURPOSE CORES ARE EXTRACTED AT AT LEAST SIX MEASURING POINTS WITH LOW AVERAGE AND HIGH IMPACT TRAVEL VALUES. AN EXAMPLE IS GIVEN FOR OBTAINING THE STRENGTHS ESTABLISHED FROM THE IMPACT TESTS WITH THE REFERENCE GRADES THUS DETERMINED.
