SOBRE LA METODOLOGIA DEL CALCULO DE FIRMES FLEXIBLES

THE AUTHOR EXPLAINS THE CURRENT SITUATION WITH REGARD TO CALCULATING THE THICKNESSES OF PAVEMENTS, A TECHNIQUE WHICH HAS BEEN PROGRESSIVELY PERFECTED THANKS TO EMPIRICAL AND RATIONAL STUDIES INTO BEHAVIOUR UNDER LOADING, TAKING ACCOUNT EQUALLY OF THE INFLUENCE OF TEMPERATURES AND THE WATER CONTENT. THE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS TECHNIQUE IS AIMED AT OBTAINING MINIMAL CROSS-SECTIONS WHICH WOULD CORRESPOND TO THE OPTIMUM SOLUTION FROM THE ECONOMIC AND FUNCTIONAL VIEWPOINTS AND WOULD PRODUCE PAVEMENTS REMAINING IN GOOD CONDITION FOR A LONG PERIOD AT MINIMUM COST. THE LATTER FACTOR IS IMPORTANT IN VIEW OF THE EFFECT OF THE COST OF THE PAVEMENT ON THE BUDGET FOR HIGHWAY AND MOTORWAY STRUCTURES.
