COMPATIBILITY OF PASSENGER CARS WITH CONSIDERATION OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF COLLISION

KOMPATIBILITAET VON PERSONENKRAFTWAGEN UNTER BERUECKSICHTIGUNG UNTERSCHIEDLICHER KOLLISIONSTYPEN

THE SAFETY PERFORMANCE OF PRESENT DAY PASSENGER CARS IS DETERMINED BY THE STATE OF THE ART OF ACCIDENT RESEARCH, RESEARCH ON BIOMECHANICS, THE POSITION OF DUMMY DEVELOPMENT AND THE TECHNOLOGY OF IMPROVEMENTS TO THE VEHICLE. THE RESULTS OF CAR TO CAR COLLISION TESTS SHOW THAT MASS PRODUCED VEHICLES HAVE A HIGH DEGREE OF COMPATIBILITY, BUT THAT IT SHOULD NOT BE CONCLUDED THAT THE PROBLEM OF COMPATIBILITY IS SOLVED. KNOWLEDGE OBTAINED FROM THE AREAS OF ACCIDENT RESEARCH AND BIOMECHANICS WILL INFLUENCE VEHICLE TECHNOLOGY. THIS INFLUENCE WILL BASICALLY HAVE TWO OBJECTIVES: BETTER ADAPTATION OF TEST CONDITIONS TO REAL ACCIDENT OCCURRENCE AND BETTER ADAPTATION OF PROTECTIVE SYSTEMS TO BIOMECHANICAL REQUIREMENTS. THE ATTAINING OF THESE OBJECTIVES IS ONLY POSSIBLE IF THERE IS COOPERATION BETWEEN THOSE DEALING WITH ACCIDENT RESEARCH, MEDICINE, VEHICLE TECHNOLOGY AND LEGISLATION.
