PLASTICS IN CAR CONSTRUCTION. BUMBERS AND EXTERNAL BODY PARTS MADE OF POLYURETHANE

KUNSTSTOFFE IM PKW-BAU. STOSSFAENGER UND KAROSSERIEAUSSENTEILE AUS POLYURETHAN

BECAUSE OF ITS ENORMOUS AREA OF APPLICATION, FROM SUPPORTING PARTS TO THE FULL FOAM SEAT, POLYURETHANE IS THE PLASTIC MOST FREQUENTLY USED IN CAR CONSTRUCTION, AND IT IS USED ESPECIALLY FOR FLEXIBLE BUMPERS AND DEFORMABLE PARTS OF THE BODY. THE LEAD GIVEN BY THE USA IS FOLLOWED ONLY HESITANTLY IN GERMANY BECAUSE OF A LACK OF STRICT SPECIFICATIONS RELATING TO DAMAGE-FREE SMALL COLLISIONS. POLYURETHANE PAINTS ALREADY EXIST WHICH ARE SUFFICIENTLY RESISTANT TO SCRATCHES AND FLEXIBLE, AND RESIST IMPACTS AT HIGH AND LOW TEMPERATURES.
