ACCIDENT CHARACTERISTICS OF STANDARD CROSS SECTION (RQ) 12.50 (B2)

UNFALLCHARAKTERISTIK DES RQ 12,50 (B2)

IN THE INTRODUCTION OF THE NEW STANDARD CROSS SECTIONS FOR FEDERAL GERMAN MAIN ROADS, BOTH THE CROSS SECTIONS RQ 15 (B2S) AND RQ 12.20 (B2) ARE SHOWN AS STANDARD CROSS SECTIONS FOR SINGLE CARRIAGEWAY MAIN ROADS. HITHERTO ONLY THE ACCIDENT CHARACTERISTICS OF MULTI-PURPOSE TWO-LANED ROADS HAVE BEEN INVESTIGATED BY SCHWAER. THIS STUDY PROVIDES DETAILED INFORMATION OF THE SAFETY OF RQ 15 (B2S). HOWEVER, IF THIS INFORMATION IS RELEVANT IN DECIDING BETWEEN CROSS SECTIONS B2 AND B2S, A COMPARISON OF ROAD SAFETY WITH RQ 12.50 (B2) MUST BE POSSIBLE. THEREFORE THE ACCIDENT CHARACTERISTICS OF THE B2 CROSS SECTION ARE TO BE STUDIED FOR SINGLE-CARRIAGEWAY ROADS HAVING MULTI-PURPOSE LANES. ACCIDENTS ARE TO BE STUDIED ACCORDING TO TYPE AND ACCORDING TO TIME OF DAY AND WEATHER CONDITIONS. SPECIAL ATTENTION IS ALSO BEING PAID TO TRAFFIC INTENSITY. THE RESULTS ARE TO BE QUANTIFIED THROUGH THE DETERMINATION OF ACCIDENT COEFFICIENTS SUCH AS ACCIDENT RATE AND ACCIDENT COSTS. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE INFORMATION OBTAINED HERE CAN BE COMPARED WITH THAT OBTAINED BY SCHWAER. THIS WILL BE ACHIEVED BY TAKING ACCOUNT OF THE METHODOLOGY USED BY SCHWAER AND OF THE REGIONAL AND TOPOGRAPHIC FACTORS ON WHICH THE SELECTION OF SECTIONS FOR STUDY WAS BASED.
