PRESTRESSED CONCRETE IS USED FOR LARGE-SPAN BRIDGES. THIS ARTICLE DESCRIBES A 185 M LONG 5-SPAN BRIDGE ACROSS THE RIVER AGRIO AT LAS LAJAS, PROVINCE OF NEUQUEN (ARGENTINA), ITS CHARACTERISTICS AND CONSTRUCTION METHOD. THE TYPE OF FOUNDATION USED (LARGE DIAMETER CONCRETE PILES CAST-IN-SITU THROUGH A LAYER OF ALLUVIAL MATERIAL OVER SANDSTONE) IS WELL ADAPTED TO THE TERRAIN. THE SUPERSTRUCTURE CONSISTS OF SIMPLY RESTING PAIRS OF PRESTRESSED PRETENSIONED CONCRETE GIRDERS. ANCHORAGE DEVICES ADAPTED TO EACH BEARING PROVIDE RESISTANCE TO SEISMIC PHENOMENA.
