SHOTCRETE. EXPERIENCES WITH THE STANDARD DIN 18551

SPRITZBETON. ERFAHRUNGEN MIT DER DIN 18551

THE SHOTCRETE STANDARD WAS DRAFTED IN 1972/73 FOR BOTH THE WET AND DRY SPRAYING PROCESSES, ALTHOUGH NO ADEQUATE ASSESSMENT WAS POSSIBLE IN THE CASE OF THE WET PROCESS. FOLLOWING AN ENUMERATION OF THE VARIOUS FIELDS OF APPLICATION OF SPRAYED MORTAR (MAX AGGREGATE SIZE 4 MM) AND SPRAYED CONCRETE IT IS POINTED OUT THAT IN THE MEANTIME GUIDELINES FOR THE REPAIR OF CONCRETE MEMBERS HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED. FURTHER DISCUSSIONS DEAL WITH THE BASIC CONSTITUENTS CEMENT, AGGREGATES AND ADDITIVES. THE WATER CONTENT IS TO BE GAUGED TO PRODUCE A MIX CONSISTENCY GIVING THE MINIMUM REBOUND. THE REMOTE-CONTROL NOZZLES USED ABROAD HAVE NOT GAINED ACCEPTANCE, BECAUSE WITH THEM IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO ENSURE THAT THE JET IS PERPENDICULAR TO THE SURFACE. THE FORMULATION OF GUIDELINES FOR THE TRAINING AND TESTING OF OPERATIVES IS SUGGESTED. FINALLY THERE ARE SOME REMARKS CONCERNING QUALITY CONTROL AND TESTING. REVISION OF THE STANDARD AND THE INCORPORATION OF THE PRESENT SPECIFICATIONS SHOULD HOWEVER BE DEFERRED UNTIL FURTHER EXPERIENCE IS AVAILABLE.
