PROBLEMS OF MECHANICAL ROAD CLEANING

PROBLEME DER MASCHINELLEN STRASSENREINIGUNG

ROAD CLEANING IS PART OF THE REGULAR PROTECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT. AS THERE ARE MANY TYPES OF ROAD CLEANING MACHINES ON THE MARKET, IT IS IMPORTANT TO MAKE A CHOICE ACCORDING TO THE WORK TO BE CARRIED OUT. THIS APPLIES PARTICULARLY FOR SMALL VILLAGES WHERE THE AVAILABLE EQUIPMENT NEEDS TO BE UTILIZED FOR AS MANY APPLICATIONS AS POSSIBLE. THE CLEANING OF FOOTPATHS CREATES SPECIAL PROBLEMS, AS STATUTORY REGULATIONS REQUIRE THAT CLEANING MACHINES FOR FOOTPATHS MUST NOT EXCEED A TOTAL WEIGHT OF 2.8 T. THE UTILIZATION OF VEHICLES WITH WATER CLEANING EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN ONLY PARTIALLY SUCCESSFUL. FOR SAND BASED SURFACES THE USE OF SUCTION MACHINES IS A PROBLEM, AS THE SAND IS REMOVED BY SUCTION, AND IN CONSEQUENCE THE STABILITY OF THE ROAD STRUCTURE IS PUT AT RISK. THE CLEANING OF AREAS RESERVED FOR PARKED VEHICLES IS OFTEN MADE DIFFICULT; ONE SHOULD AIM AT SPECIAL REGULATIONS FOR PARKING PERIODS. ALSO, PARKING BAYS SHOULD BE ARRANGED SUCH THAT THEY CAN BE CLEANED MECHANICALLY. DEMANDS WERE MADE FOR THE DRAFT REGULATIONS (RAS-E). THE INCREASED DEMANDS MADE ON THE TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION OF ROAD SWEEPERS HAS LEAD TO MAINTENANCE PROBLEMS. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE HYDRAULIC, PNEUMATIC AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS ARE DESIGNED SUCH THAT IT IS POSSIBLE FOR MAINTENANCE WORK TO BE CARRIED OUT IN THE USER'S WORKSHOPS AND TO AVOID LONG PERIODS OF NON-UTILIZATION OF THESE EXPENSIVE MACHINES.
