LONG TERM CHANGE IN THE DURATION OF PRACTICAL DRIVER TRAINING. AN ANALYSIS OF TARGET GROUPS FOR DRIVER EDUCATION

LANGZEITLICHE VERAENDERUNG IN DER DAUER DER PRAKTISCHEN FAHRAUSBILDUNG. EIN BEITRAG ZUR ANALYSE VON ZIELGRUPPEN DER KRAFTFAHRERAUSBILDUNG

ALL THE PUPILS OF A DRIVING SCHOOL (N = 1624) DURING THE PERIOD 1960 TO 1976 WERE EXAMINED BY MEANS OF DUMMY REGRESSION ANALYSIS FOR TRENDS TOWARDS A CHANGE IN THE DURATION OF THE PRACTICAL DRIVER TRAINING. IT WAS SHOWN THAT PUPILS OVER 25, WOMEN, AND PUPILS OF FOREIGN NATIONALITY HAD LONGER LEARNING PERIODS THAN OTHER GROUPS. IN ALL GROUPS DIFFERENCES IN THE TRAFFIC AND EDUCATION SYSTEM LED TO A (NON-LINEAR) INCREASE IN LEARNING PERIODS. GENERALISATION OF THE PRINCIPAL EFFECTS (AGE, SEX, TIME) MUST, HOWEVER, BE DROPPED IN FAVOUR OF A DIFFERENTIAL METHOD OF CONSIDERATION (PRESENCE OF HIGHER-PRIORITY ORDINAL INTERACTIONS). THE OBSERVED DIFFERENCE IN THE LEARNING PERIODS IN THE GROUP OF YOUNG, MALE (GERMAN) PUPILS AND THE REST OF THE GROUPS IS PRESENTED AS A GROWING PROBLEM OF PRACTICAL TRAINING.
