STUDYING NEW CONSTRUCTION METHODS

ERPROBUNG NEUER BAUWEISEN

THE INCREASING AMOUNT OF SLAG PRODUCED IN HAMBURG FROM THE BURNING OF RUBBISH MAY BE ABLE TO BE MARKETED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF ROADBASES FOR HIGHWAYS. A 700 M LONG EXPERIMENTAL ROAD WAS LAID IN 1975. AREAS WITH 25 CM OF THIS SLAG 0/31.5 CM IN TWO ROADBASES WERE COMPARED WITH CONVENTIONAL AREAS OF ROADBASE. THE SUBSOIL CONDITIONS WERE NOT COMPARABLE. SINCE 1976 THE EXPERIMENTAL ROAD HAS BEEN OPEN TO TRAFFIC. DIFFERENCES ARE NOT YET VISIBLE. THE REPORT CONTAINS DATA REGARDING THE PROPORTION OF SLAG AND ON FURTHER SECTIONS OF THE EXPERIMENTAL ROAD.
