STUDIES OF THE SOUND PROPAGATION FROM TRAMS

UNTERSUCHUNGEN ZUR SCHALLABSTRAHLUNG VON STRASSENBAHNEN

THIS REPORT IS CONCERNED MAINLY WITH SOME PECULIARITIES OF NOISE AND THE UNIFORMITY OF NOISE DISPERSION. STARTING WITH THE DIMENSIONS FOR QUANTIFYING NOISE EMISSION, QUESTIONS ARE DISCUSSED REGARDING THE DETERMINATION OF NOISE EMISSION IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SPECIFICATIONS. THE AUTHORS STUDY THE RELATION BETWEEN THE MAXIMUM NOISE LEVEL AND THE INDIVIDUAL PARAMETERS OF DISTANCE, VELOCITY OF THE VEHICLE, QUALITY OF THE TRACK EQUIPMENT AS WELL AS THE METHOD OF CONSTRUCTION AND THE TRACK GUIDANCE. FOR THE PRELIMINARY CALCULATION OF THE EXPRESSION "LEQ" A SERIES OF CALCULATION FORMULA ARE GIVEN FOR THE PRACTITIONER, WITH WHICH THE NOISE LEVELS CAN BE DETERMINED IN RELATION TO VARIOUS PARAMETERS. FURTHERMORE, QUESTIONS REGARDING THE POSSIBILITY OF NOISE REDUCTION ARE TREATED, BOTH MEASURES AT THE NOISE SOURCE AND ALSO SECONDARY MEASURES (SCREENING ETC) ARE DISCUSSED.
