CONTEMPORARY ASPECTS OF URBAN ROAD AND BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION

AKTUELLE ASPEKTE DES STAEDTISCHEN STRASSEN- UND BRUECKENBAUES

AREAS OF CONFLICT AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE REDUCTION OF THESE ARE DISCUSSED CONCERNING THE GENERAL TOPIC ROAD AND BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION IN HAMBURG. AGREEMENT IS NECESSARY BETWEEN TOWN PLANNERS, TRAFFIC ENGINEERS AND POLITICIANS. ON THE PROBLEM OF ROAD CONSTRUCTION OR PUBLIC TRANSPORT THE SOLUTION IS GIVEN: ROAD CONSTRUCTION AND PUBLIC TRANSPORT. ON THE PROBLEM OF ROAD NOISE IT IS ESTABLISHED THAT THE GERMAN FEDERAL IMMISSION PROTECTION LAW HAS RESULTED IN UNREASONABLE REQUIREMENTS AND IT IS EXPECTED THAT THE TRAFFIC NOISE PROTECTION LAW WILL BRING ABOUT ACCEPTABLE REGULATIONS. ROAD CONSTRUCTION ON CITY ROADS SUFFERS UNDER ESPECIALLY POOR CONSTRUCTION CONDITIONS (PROBLEMS WITH KEEPING ONE TRAFFIC LANE FREE). RESIDENTS AND CAR DRIVERS ADD TO THE PROBLEMS OF ROAD CONSTRUCTION. THE PUBLIC'S VIEW OF ROAD CONSTRUCTION SUFFERS ALSO FROM THE HIGH CONTRIBUTIONS TO ROAD CONSTRUCTION BY THE LOCAL COUNCILS, THE NECESSARY DIVERSION WORKS AND POSSIBLE CONTRIBUTIONS FOR THE EXTENSION OF ROAD SCHEMES. THE EXCLUSIVELY TECHNICAL WAY OF THINKING OF HIGHWAY ENGINEERS MUST BE REPLACED BY A READINESS FOR INTER-DISCIPLINARY COOPERATION.
