THIS FINAL REPORT OF THE ETH INSTITUTE AT ZURICH OPENS WITH A SUMMARY OF THE CONTENTS OF A 1974 INTERIM REPORT. CORRELATION MEASUREMENTS WERE CARRIED OUT WITH FOUR DIFFERENT DEVICES ON 60 STRETCHES OF PAVEMENT. THE STATISTICAL EVALUATION OF THE EXTENSIVE DATA AVAILABLE BY MEANS OF A COMPUTER IS SEEN AS AN IMPORTANT ADVANCE. THUS THE GOOD CORRELATION BETWEEN THE RESULTS FROM THE NEW ISETH ANGLE MEASURING DEVICE WITH THE VERTICAL ACCELERATION MEASURED IN THE CAR, CONFIRMS THE VALUE OF THE S(W) COEFFICIENTS FOR PREDICTION PURPOSES. THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE DEVICE AND THE BASES OF THE EVALUATION ARE DESCRIBED. ONE MAY NOT OMIT THE SEPARATE OBSERVATION OF THE UNEVENNESS IN THE LONGITUDINAL AND TRANSVERSE DIRECTION. THE NEW SWISS STANDARD SNV 640521 A PROPOSES THAT THE LIMITING VALUE OF THE THEORETICAL WATER DEPTH T IN TRACKING GROOVES SHOULD BE 4 MM ON FAST NATIONAL HIGHWAYS AND 8 MM ON MAIN ROADS.
