ENGINEERING-BIOLOGICAL WORKING METHODS IN ROAD CONSTRUCTION

THE AUTHOR GIVES A SURVEY OF THE ENGINEERING-BIOLOGICAL METHODS IN LANDSCAPING, WHICH RESULT IN VEGETATION WHICH GROWS AS FAST AS POSSIBLE IN ORDER TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE COUNTRYSIDE OR TO REDUCE IT TO A MINIMUM. THE TASK OF ENGINEERING BIOLOGY IS NOT ONLY TO PRODUCE VEGETATION ON THE BARE AREAS WHICH REQUIRE PROTECTION, BUT ALSO TO CREATE THE PREREQUISITES BEYOND THE INITIAL PHASE FOR AN INDEPENDENT DEVELOPMENT OF THESE AREAS FOR CONSOLIDATING AND PRODUCING A PERMANENT STABLE STATE. AMONGST THE MULTITUDE OF POSSIBILITIES OF BIOLOGICAL PLANTING OF VEGETATION AND SECURING THE AREAS, ONLY THE MOST IMPORTANT METHODS ARE DISCUSSED AND DESCRIBED. THE PLANTING OF VEGETATION FOR THE PURPOSE OF NOISE ABATEMENT AND THE TRANSPLANTING OF LARGE TREES TO ACHIEVE EXTENSIVE VEGETATION IS DISCUSSED. THE AUTHOR USES VERY CLEAR ILLUSTRATIONS, WHICH ENABLE ALSO THE NON-SPECIALIST TO GAIN AN INSIGHT INTO THE SUBJECT MATTER OF LANDSCAPING, AND HE PROVIDES A CHOICE OF SUITABLE METHODS.
