VERKEHRSBERUHIGTE ZONEN IN SKANDINAVIEN

THE DEVELOPMENT OF QUIET TRAFFIC ZONES IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS HAS BEEN ENCOURAGED BY THE HAMBURG SENATE. SUCCESSFUL MEASURES TO QUIETEN TRAFFIC HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT IN COPENHAGEN, AARHUS, STOCKHOLM, UPPSALA, GOTENBORG, HELSINKI AND OSLO. THIS REPORT CONCERNS THE ORGANISATION, EVOLVEMENT AND INSTALLATION OF THESE MEASURES. CITIZENS, PRESS AND TELEVISION HAVE BEEN CONTINUALLY INVOLVED. THE PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATIONS HAVE CONCERNED THE DISTRIBUTION OF RESIDENTIAL- AND WORK-PLACES, THE BALANCE OF OPEN SPACE, TRANSPORTATION STUDIES, ACCIDENT ANALYSES AND EMISSION LEVELS. TO EXAMPLES OF TOWNS WITH "LARGE" TOWN TRAFFIC, EXAMPLES ARE PROVIDED OF TRAFFIC REORGANISATION TO CUT OUT THROUGH TRAFFIC, TO IMPROVE SAFETY, TO REDUCE PARKING BY NON-RESIDENTS, TO IMPROVE THE RESIDENTIAL SURROUNDINGS AND ALSO OF RESIDENTIAL STREETS. THE RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS FROM THE EXPERIENCE IN SCANDINAVIA ARE SUMMARIZED POINT BY POINT.
