QUIET TRAFFIC ZONES IN HAMBURG

THE AIM OF THIS INVESTIGATION WAS TO WORK OUT PRACTICAL PLANNING AND DESIGN PRINCIPLES FOR THE PROPOSED ESTABLISHMENT OF ZONES WITH REDUCED TRAFFIC NOISE IN THE OLD RESIDENTIAL AREA. THE STUDY PAID PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: PREREQUISITES FOR THE PLANNING OF ZONES WITH REDUCED TRAFFIC NOISE (ANALYSIS OF CONDITIONS, BOUNDARIES, ARRANGEMENT OF QUIET TRAFFIC), MINIMUM GEOMETRICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR DIMENSION OF DESIGN ELEMENTS (DRIVING LANE WIDTHS, SIZE OF PARKING PLACES, ROUNDING OFF OF CORNERS, ACCESS TO SITES), SUMMARY AND POSSIBILITIES OF APPLICATION OF MEASURES FOR REDUCING TRAFFIC NOISE (INFLUENCING DRIVING POSSIBILITIES AND TRAFFIC PATTERNS OR SPEEDS) AND LEGAL QUESTIONS.
