RE-PAVING WITH GUSSASPHALT WITH THE VOEGELE REFORMER

THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE EQUIPMENT USED ARE THAT THE GUSSASPHALT MUST BE HEATED TO A SUFFICIENTLY HIGH LEVEL AND TO A SUFFICIENT DEPTH. FOR THIS REASON THE ASPHALT PAVEMENT REFORMER SUPER 1700 ARF TRAILER DEVICE WITH THE REPAVING EQUIPMENT INTRODUCED IN 1976 WAS REPLACED BY A NEWLY DEVELOPED MODEL, WHICH HAS THE FOLLOWING CHARACTERISTICS: (1) ADDITIONAL HEATING EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN ADDED; (2) THE TAMPING BEAM WAS SUPPORTED BY RUBBER WHEELS FITTED WITH A HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT; (3) THE STIFF CHISEL-TYPE TEETH ON THE RIPPING DEVICE HAVE BEEN REPLACED BY ELASTIC SPRING LOADED BARS, WHICH YIELD WHEN THEY ENCOUNTER A HARD OBJECT. A DECISIVE FACTOR IS THE MUCH GREATER HEATING AREA. IN A TEST RUN THE TEMPERATURE IN THE UPPER AREA 1.5 CM IN FRONT OF THE RIPPER WAS FOUND TO BE 250 - 300 DEG C, IN FRONT OF THE FINISHER OR TAMPER BEAM 220 - 240 DEG C AND DIRECTLY UNDER THE BEAM 150 - 180 DEG C. FOR ROUGHENING THE MORTAR LEVEL, BITUMINIZED CHIPPINGS 2/5 MM WERE SPREAD BY HAND.
