STRENGTHENING PRESTRESSED CONCRETE PAVEMENT
LOAD-DEFLECTION MEASUREMENTS OBTAINED FROM FULL SCALE PLATE-BEARING TESTS WERE ANALYZED AND COMPARED WITH THEORETICAL CALCULATED VALUES TO EVALUATE THE STRENGTH OF A SECTION OF THE PRESTRESSED CONCRETE RUNWAY OF KUWAIT INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. TOTAL LENGTH OF THE RUNWAY CONSISTED OF 13 SUCH SECTIONS, EACH ABOUT 912.7 FEET LONG. RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE BEARING CAPACITY OF THE SECTION'S CENTRAL PART WAS WEAKER THAN THE REQUIRED VALUE. A METHOD WAS ESTABLISHED TO STRENGHTEN THE EXISTING PAVEMENT WITH A CONCRETE OVERLAY DIRECTLY BONDED TO THE PRESTRESSED PAVEMENT. /AUTHOR/
