WAITING TIMES FOR TRAFFIC AT JUNCTIONS WITHOUT SIGNALS

WARTEZEITEN BEI INSTATIONAEREM VERKEHR AN KNOTENPUNKTEN OHNE LICHTSIGNALANLAGE

AN EMPIRICAL STUDY WAS UNDERTAKEN TO CHECK THE CHARACTERISTIC VALUES OF TRAFFIC FLOW AT UNCONTROLLED JUNCTIONS DETERMINED BY STAMM THROUGH THEORY AND SIMULATION. THE EFFECT OF LOADING FLUCTUATIONS ON THE WAITING TIMES OF VEHICLES WHICH DO NOT HAVE PRIORITY IS ALSO EXAMINED. UNSTEADY TRAFFIC FLOW LEADS IN ALL THE CASES STUDIED TO AN INCREASE IN AVERAGE WAITING TIMES COMPARED WITH STEADY STATE TRAFFIC. THIS WAS DETERMINED EMPIRICALLY AND THEORETICALLY.
