AN EXPLANATION OF THE EFFECT OF THE CARRIAGEWAY ON NOISE FROM SMOOTH TREAD TYRES

DER EINFLUSS DER FAHRBAHN AUF DAS GERAEUSCH PROFILLOSER REIFEN UND EIN BEITRAG ZU SEINER ERKLAERUNG

THE EFFECT OF ROAD SURFACE ON THE NOISE EMITTED FROM A FREE-ROLLING SMOOTH TREAD TYRE IS EXAMINED. TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT WITH THE SO-CALLED WET ROAD FRICTION METER ON 15 SELECTED ROADS TO EVALUATE SURFACE SKIDDING RESISTANCE. THE AIM WAS TO SEE WHETHER THE DEMAND FOR ESPECIALLY SKID RESISTANT ROADS CONFLICTS WITH EFFORTS TO DECREASE TYRE NOISE. THE ROAD SURFACES WERE DIVIDED INTO 3 GROUPS ACCORDING TO FREQUENCY SPECTRA AND EVALUATED. THE TESTS ARE DESCRIBED AND THE RESULTS COMPARED WITH THOSE ALREADY PUBLISHED.
