FRACTURE STRENGTH AND FRACTURE DEFORMATION OF CONCRETE UNDER MULTIAXIAL LOADING AT ROOM TEMPERATURE

CONCRETE SPECIMENS OF THE QUALITY CLASSES 350, 450 AND 550 WITH CALCITIC AND QUARTZITIC AGGREGATE WERE TESTED FOR THEIR MULTIAXIAL CRUSHING STRENGTH AND THEIR DEFORMATION BEHAVIOUR UNDER VARIOUS COMBINATIONS OF UNIAXIAL, BIAXIAL AND TRIAXIAL COMPRESSIVE AND TENSILE LOADS. THE LOADING AXES OF THE TEST CUBES (WITH 10 CM SIDES) WERE FIXED AT RIGHT ANGLES. THE RESISTANCE TO DEFORMATION OF THE TEST CUBES DUE TO INTERFACIAL FRICTION WAS LARGELY REDUCED BY INTERPOSING SLIP LAYERS CONSISTING OF SIX 0.05 MM THICK ALUMINIUM FOILS COATED WITH A MOLYKOTE OIL FILM. THE SPECIFIED CONCRETE CLASSES WERE OBTAINED BY VARYING THE CEMENT-WATER RATIO AT CONSTANT MATRIX VOLUME. WORKABILITY WAS KEPT EQUAL FOR ALL SPECIMENS. THE SPECIFIED LOADING CONDITIONS IN THE THREE PRINCIPAL AXES X, Y, Z WERE KEPT CONSTANT DURING THE INDIVIDUAL LOADINGS. BASED ON THE CRUSHING STRENGTH VALUES FOUND, THE LIMITING BEARING CAPACITY SURFACE OF THE COORDINATE SYSTEM CAN BE DETERMINED USING A COMPUTER PROGRAM. THE DEFORMATION TO FAILURE OF THE CONCRETES IN THE THREE PRINCIPAL AXES WAS ALSO DETERMINED FOR DIFFERENT LOAD COMBINATIONS.
