NEW RULES FOR LIQUID CARGOES
The new rules accepted by the Board of Det norske Veritas for the construction and classification of bulk liquid cargo carriers are summarized. The rules take the form of a description of system requirements corresponding to different hazard levels. Such systems are cargo tank arrangements, tank types, cargo piping systems, ventilation, instrumentation, etc. According to a hazard graduation of each cargo, the requirements for the vessel are given in the description of the corresponding systems. The hazards considered are fire, explosion and toxicity. Examples of class notation are given.
