SURFACE PROPERTIES OF THE PAVEMENTS - POLAND

THE EVENNESS OF A PAVEMENT IS MEASURED BY MEANS OF: A STRAIGHT-EDGE 3 METERS LONG, A PROFILOGRAPH, AND A VIBROMETER. RUGOSITY IS TESTED BY MEANS OF A MEASURING TRAILER OR AN APPARATUS DEVELOPED FOR HIGH-SPEED MEASUREMENT CALLED THE WP-1 APPARATUS. TESTS CONDUCTED WITH THE PROFILOGRAPH DEMONSTRATED THAT IT IS THOROUGHLY SUITABLE FOR THE EVALUATION OF THE EVENNESS OF NEWLY CONSTRUCTED PAVEMENTS. THE INSTRUMENT FOR TESTING EVENNESS BY MEANS OF A VIBROMETER WHICH IS NOW IN THE COURSE OF DEVELOPMENT WILL BE EMPLOYED FOR EVALUATING THE EVENNESS OF PAVEMENTS ON ALL ROADS ALREADY CONSTRUCTED. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT BY APPLYING A SUITABLE TECHNIQUE, IT IS POSSIBLE TO CONSTRUCT BITUMINOUS PAVEMENTS WHOSE RUGOSITY CORRESPONDS TO THE GOOD OR EVEN EXCELLENT RUGOSITY OF CEMENT CONCRETE PAVEMENTS. EFFORTS MUST BE MADE TO WORK OUT A METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE NUMERICAL VALUE OF THE COEFFICIENT OF SKIDDING RESISTANCE BY APPLICATION OF THE NEWLY DEVELOPED RUGOSITY MEASURING INSTRUMENT.
