DEFLECTION OF VISCOELASTIC MEDIUM DUE TO A MOVING LOAD
AN ANALYSIS OF THE VERTICAL DEFLECTION OF A POINT ON THE SURFACE OF A LINEAR VISCOELASTIC HALF-SPACE DUE TO A POINT LOAD MOVING ACROSS THE SURFACE IS PRESENTED. THE PARTICULAR LINEAR VISCOELASTIC MATERIAL CONSIDERED IS ONE WHICH RESPONDS IN A LINEAR ELASTIC MANNER TO VOLUMETRIC STRESS, AND LIKE A STANDARD KELVIN MODEL WHEN SUBJECTED TO DEVIATORIC STRESS. NUMERICAL RESULTS ILLUSTRATE THE EFFECT OF MATERIAL PROPERTIES AND VELOCITY OF THE LOAD ON SURFACE DISPLACEMENTS. ACCUMULATION OF SURFACE DEFLECTION DUE TO A SERIES OF MOVING LOADS IS ILLUSTRATED. APPLICATIONS TO FLEXIBLE PAVEMENT DEFLECTIONS ARE DISCUSSED. /AUTHOR/
