NEW DESIGNS TO MEET OFFSHORE SUPPLY PROBLEMS
A specialized type of vessel was developed for supply ships for offshore drilling for oil and gas in the rough waters of the North Sea. These rough water supply vessels have three main roles - to supply the offshore drilling rig, to handle the heavy anchors which maintain the rig in position, and to tow the rig from one drilling location to another. Details are given for two such sister ships, the Arctic Shore and the Pacific Shore. To give the high degree of maneuverability required, they are fitted with twin screws, twin rudders and a White Gill jet thruster unit in the bow section.
