L. C. P. C. STUDIES ON PAVEMENT DESIGN

THIS RESEARCH PROGRAM IN THE FIELD OF PAVEMENT DESIGN IS INTENDED FOR IMPROVING KNOWLEDGE OF EFFECTS OF HEAVY TRAFFIC ON PAVEMENT DURABILITY. URGENT NEED OF STRENGTENING OF A GREAT PART OF THE PAVEMENTS OF THE NATIONAL SYSTEM PLAYED A MAJOR ROLE IN THE CONCEPTION OF THIS PROGRAM. THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WERE SPECIALLY STUDIED58 /1/ MATHEMATICAL MODELS FOR COMPUTATION OF STRESSES AND STRAINS WITHIN LAYERED STRUCTURES. THESE MODELS ARE CHARACTERIZED BY STATIC OR TIME-VARYING LOADS AND PRELIMINARY STUDIES HAVE BEEN PERFORMED OF VISCO-ELASTIC AND NON-LINER EFFECTS. /2/ IN- SITU EXPERIMENTAL METHODS.
