NEW METHODS OF CARGO HANDLING

Miller Weblift Ltd, London, has developed two methods of handling bag cargo, both of which increase efficiency and reduce costs. The collapsible pallet mat is made of Terylene webbing and incorporates tubular lifting gear. The standard collapsible pallet mats are 4 ft wide by 6 ft 7 in. long and are capable of carrying a load of 2 tons. A disposable sling for storing, transporting and lifting is designed to handle cargo from 1/2 to 3 tons and incorporates a safety factor of 6 to 1. Although they have a life of only one trip, the low outlay on the slings is easily offset by the savings achieved on handling charges. Also described is a new wheel harness to lash down vehicles on ferries which can be adjusted quickly. It incorporates a universal webbing wheel wrap of novel design and is suitable for cars of all sizes.
