DEFORMATION OF CONTINOUS PAVEMENT

THIS PAPER, WHICH IS PRESENTED IN FRENCH, GIVES A SUMMARY OF THE PRESENT METHODS FOR RATIONAL DESIGN OF ROAD FOUNDATIONS IN FRANCE. BASICALLY THE METHODS ASSUME AN ELASTIC OR LINEAR VISCOELASTIC BEHAVIOUR OF THE ROAD MATERIALS. SOME EXPERIMENTAL TESTS HAVE CONFIRMED THE VALIDITY OF THESE ASSUMPTIONS, OR RATHER, THEY HAVE DEFINED THE BOUNDARIES OF THE HYPOTHESIS. AT THE PRESENT TIME THE CALCULATIONS HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM OF THE STATIC CASE OF A MULTI-LAYER PAVEMENT AND THE DYNAMIC PROBLEM IN THE CASE OF AN HOMOGENEOUS PAVEMENT (MOBILE LOAD). THE DYNAMIC PROBLEM IN THE CASE OF A PAVEMENT WITH SEVERAL LAYERS IS NOT ENTIRELY SOLVED YET, HOWEVER, IT WOULD APPEAR THAT WITH EXISTING VEHICLE SPEEDS, THIS PROBLEM IS NOT MUCH DIFFERENT FROM THAT OF THE STATIC CASE. /AUTH/
