A MOISTURE-BALANCE PROFILE ON THE SIERRA NEVADA

PROFILES HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED SHOWING THE VARIATION WITH ELEVATION OF: RUNOFF, EVAPOTRANSPIRATION, INTERCEPTION, AND PRECIPITATION. DATA ARE FROM THE AMERICAN RIVER BASIN ON THE WEST SLOPE OF THE SIERRA NEVADA. ELEVATIONS RANGE FROM 200 TO 10380 FEET. DATA ARE ADJUSTED TO ANNUAL MEANS FOR A FIFTY-YEAR PERIOD. RESULTS SHOW THAT PRECIPITATION CAN BE ESTIMATED AS THE SUM OF THE THREE OTHER FACTORS AND THE RESULTING PRECIPITATION PROFILE SHOWS THE GENERAL RESPONSE OF PRECIPITATION TO OROGRAPHY IN THIS REGION. /AUTHOR/
