FREQUENCY ANALYSIS OF SKEW ORTHOTROPIC PLATES BY THE FINITE STRIP METHOD

THE FREE VIBRATION OF SKEW ORTHOTROPIC PLATES, WITH TWO OPPOSITE EDGES SIMPLY SUPPORTED AND THE OTHER TWO EDGES FREE, IS ANALYZED BY USING THE FINITE STRIP METHOD, WHICH IS A MODIFICATION OF THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD. THE PLATE IS DIVIDED INTO STRIPS, IN CONTRA- DISTINCTION TO ELEMENTS, AND DISPLACEMENT FUNCTONS ASSUMED TO SATISFY THE END CONDITIONS AND INTER-STRIP COMPATIBILITY CONDITIONS. SMALL DEFLECTION THEORY IS APPLIED TO A STRIP IN THE FORMULATION OF POTENTIAL AND KINETIC ENERGY EXPRESSIONS REQUIRED TO SET UP THE STIFFNESS AND MASS MATRICES. THE EIGENVALUES AND EIGENVECTORS ARE COMPUTED AND FOR CERTAIN CASES THE RESULTS ARE CHECKED WITH THOSE OF OTHER INVESTIGATORS. /TRRL/A/
