PAVEMENT PERFORMANCE OF AN OLD ROAD STABILIZED WITH EMULSION IN QUEBEC

COMPARISON OF A ROAD STABILIZED WITH EMULSION TO A RECENTLY CONSTRUCTED STANDARD ROAD IS MADE BY A PERFORMANCE SURVEY, INCLUDING A REBOUND STUDY MADE WITH A BENKELMAN BEAM, ROUGHNESS MEASUREMENTS MADE WITH A ROAD METER, AND A CRACKING CONDITION SURVEY. THE ROAD SECTION STABILIZED WITH EMULSION WAS MUCH SUPERIOR REGARDING STRUCTURAL UNIFORMITY. AT A COST OF 50 TO 75% LESS, THE BEARING CAPACITY IS THE SAME AS THAT OF THE ROAD SECTION NEWLY CONSTRUCTED ACCORDING TO THE STANDARD METHOD.
