GENERAL CONSIDERATION REGARDING THE EFFECT OF FROST ON PAVEMENTS, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO BITUMINOUS PAVEMENTS

BASED ON THE PREMISE THAT THE CAUSES OF FROST DAMAGE TO PAVEMENTS CAN GENERALLY BE CONSIDERED AS DIRECT OR INDIRECT, THE AUTHOR EXAMINES THE INFLUENCE OF CLIMATIC, CONSTRUCTION, MAINTENANCE, AND ADMINISTRATIVE FACTORS, AS THOSE HAVING A DIRECT BEARING ON THE PROBLEM. RESEARCH AND PREVENTIVE MEASURES IN ITALY ARE COMPARED WITH PRESENT DEVELOPMENTS AND TRENDS IN GERMANY, FRANCE AND SWITZERLAND. SOME PROPOSALS ARE MADE WITH REGARD TO FUTURE RESEARCH IN ITALY, IN THIS FIELD. /TRRL/
