INTERACTIVE GRAPHIC ROADWAY DESIGN SYSTEM-FUNCTIONAL SPECIFICATIONS AND FEASIBILITY STUDY

THE PROBLEM STATEMENT FOR THIS PROJECT INCLUDED THREE PHASES WHOSE TOTAL OBJECTIVE WAS TO DEVELOP AN INTERACTIVE COMPUTER-GRAPHIC SOFTWARE SYSTEM CAPABILITY FOR USE BY THE HIGHWAY DESIGNER IN EFFECTING REVISIONS TO DESIGNS. PHASE I INCLUDED (1) REVIEW OF PROCEDURES AND TECHNIQUES DEVELOPED IN PREVIOUS AND CURRENT RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, INCLUDING THE ROAD DESIGN SYSTEM OF THE TEXAS HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT, AND EXISTING INTERACTIVE COMPUTER GRAPHIC APPLICATIONS FOR USES OTHER THAN HIGHWAY DESIGN; (2) DEVELOPMENT OF A SOFTWARE SYSTEM DESIGN THAT WOULD DESCRIBE IN DETAIL THE SOFTWARE REQUIRED TO ACHIEVE THE TOTAL OBJECTIVE STATED ABOVE; AND (3) ANALYSES OF THE COMPUTER AND GRAPHICAL DISPLAY HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO SUPPORT THE SOFTWARE SYSTEM DESIGN. WORK ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF IGRDS WAS TERMINATED AT PHASE 1, PRIMARILY ON THE BASIS OF POLICY MATTERS INVOLVED IN THE RESEARCH MISSION FOR THE NCHRP.
