COST-EFFECTIVENESS TECHNIQUE FOR ANALYSIS OF ALTERNATIVE INTERCHANGE DESIGN CONFIGURATIONS

THIS REPORT DEVELOPS A COST-EFFECTIVENESS METHODOLOGY FOR THE ANALYSIS AND COMPARISON OF ALTERNATIVE INTERCHANGE CONFIGURATIONS, USING A CONVENTIONAL DIAMOND INTERCHANGE NORTH OF ORLANDO, FLORIDA AS A CASE STUDY. FIVE CANDIDATE GEOMETRIC CONFIGURATIONS WERE EVALUATED IN TERMS OF TOTAL PEAK-HOUR CAPACITY. ITERATIVE APPLICATION OF A LINEAR PROGRAMMING MODEL ASSURES IDENTIFICATION OF CRITICAL ELEMENTS AND A CONFIGURATION OF MAXIMUM CAPACITY. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PROJECT INITIATION ARE BASED ON COST OF IMPROVEMENTS.
