CONCRETE BOX GIRDER BRIDGES ANALYZED AS FOLDED PLATES

THE STIFFNESS METHOD DESCRIBED IS AN EXTENSION OF THAT DEVELOPED BY DE-FRIES-SKENE AND SCORDELIS, AND IS BASED ON THE THEORY FORMULATED BY GOLDBERG AND LEVE. THE METHOD IS FURTHER EXTENDED TO THE ANALYSIS OF CONCRETE BOX GIRDER BRIDGES BY THE DERIVATION OF ADDITIONAL EQUATIONS. THE PAPER CONSISTS OF THREE PARTS: (1) GENERAL METHOD OF ANALYSIS, (2) EQUATIONS FOR THE DETERMINATION OF FIXED EDGE FORCES AND MOMENTS AT THE INTERIOR POINTS OF A PLATE, AND (3) THE ANALYSIS OF A TYPICAL CONCRETE BOX GIRDER. MOMENTS AND STRESSES OBTAINED BY THE FOLDED PLATE ANALYSIS ARE COMPARED WITH THOSE OBTAINED BY CONVENTIONAL METHODS. //RRL/
