A PROPOSED STANDARD DEFORMED BAR FOR REINFORCING CONCRETE

A PROPOSED STANDARD DEFORMED CONCRETE REINFORCING BAR IS DISCUSSED. INFORMATION IS PROVIDED ON VARIOUS RELATED MATTERS AS FOLLOWS: (1) AN INTRODUCTION DESCRIBING WHY BOND IS IMPORTANT, HOW IT CAN BE EVALUATED AND HOW IT MAY VARY DUE TO THE POSITION AND DIRECTION OF MOVEMENT OF THE BAR IN THE CONCRETE, (2) SOME COMPARISONS OF THE BOND CHARACTERISTICS OF COMMERCIAL AND PREPARED BARS FOR HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL POSITIONS OF CASTING, (3) CONSIDERATIONS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A COMMERCIALLY PRACTICAL DEFORMED BAR, (4) APPROXIMATE APPEARANCE, DIMENSIONS AND PROPERTIES OF THE PROPOSED DEFORMED BAR IN VARIOUS SIZES. THE PROPOSED BAR IS PROVIDED WITH SIMPLE PROJECTIONS AND INDENTATIONS OF NOVEL SHAPE AND SIZE PERMITTING THE SPACINGS OF THE PROJECTIONS (OR LUGS) AT CLOSE INTERVALS SUBSTANTIALLY AROUND THE BAR AND AT SMALL INCLINATIONS FROM A STRICTLY TRANSVERSE POSITION WITH REFERENCE TO THE AXIS OF THE BAR.
