BOX BEAMS FOR PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BRIDGES - PART I SUMMARY OF PREVIOUS RESEARCH AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE TESTING

PREVIOUS RESEARCH ON FULL SCALE CONVENTIONAL AND THROUGH- VOIDED PRESTRESSED BOX BEAMS HAS BEEN CONCERNED ONLY WITH BEAMS SUBJECTED TO BENDING AND SHEAR. IT IS PROPOSED TO TEST, INDIVIDUALLY, A FULL SCALE CONVENTIONAL PRESTRESSED BOX BEAM WITH END BLOCKS AND AN INTERIOR DIAPHRAM AS WELL AS ONE OF THE SAME DESIGN AND DEMENSIONS BUT THROUGH-VOIDED. TWO OTHER THROUGH-VOIDED BEAMS OF REDUCED DEPTH WOULD ALSO BE TESTED INDIVIDUALLY. IT IS ALSO PROPOSED TO BUILD A BRIDGE MODEL CONSISTING OF FOUR ADJACENT THROUGH-VOID PRESTRESSED BOX BEAMS WHERE THE CONTRIBUTION OF TIE RODS, SHEAR KEYS AND COMPOSITE DECK SLAB WILL BE STUDIED TO DETERMINE THEIR IMPORTANCE TO THE RIGIDITY OF THE RIGIDITY OF THE BRIDGE. INCLUDED IN THE APPENDICES ARE ANNOTATED AND UNANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHIES WHICH ARE THE RESULT OF PHASE I OF THIS PROJECT, A LITERATURE SEARCH OF MATERIAL PERTINENT TO THIS STUDY.
