THE PRESENTATION OF THE SLOPE-DEFLECTION FOURIER SERIES METHOD FOR THE ANALYSIS OF CURVED ORTHOTROPIC HIGHWAY BRIDGES THE DESIGN OF CURVED VIADUCTS AND SPIRAL APPROACHES TO INTERSECTIONS

A TECHNIQUE IS PRESENTED FOR ANALYZING A CONTINUOUS CURVED ORTHOTROPIC OR ISOTROPIC BRIDGE DECK ON CURVED FLEXIBLE GIRDERS. THIS TYPE OF SYSTEM REPRESENTS A CURVED ORTHOTROPIC BRIDGE. THE GENERAL CURVED PLATE AND GIRDER EQUATIONS AS REQUIRED BY THE SLOPE DEFLECTION METHOD, ARE DEVELOPED AND EXPLAINED. AN EXAMPLE BRIDGE PROBLEM WAS EXAMINED AND THE RESULTING MATRIX DEVELOPED. SOME NUMERICAL RESULTS, FOR A LIMITING CONDITION, WERE OBTAINED FOR THE VARIOUS CURVED PLATE STIFFNESS PARAMETERS. THESE RESULTS WERE CORRELATED WITH THE RECTANGULAR PLATE STIFFNESS, GIVING EXCELLENT AGREEMENT. SIMILARLY, THE FIXED END MOMENT AND FIXED END REACTION, FOR A CONCENTRATED LOAD AT VARIOUS POSITIONS, WERE ALSO CALCULATED FOR A LIMITING CURVED PLATE CONDITION. SMALL LABORATORY TESTS ARE BEING CONDUCTED ON A CURVED STIFFENED PLATE MODEL.
