A STUDY OF PARTIALLY RESTRAINED TWO-WAY BRIDGE SLABS SUBJECTED TO CONCENTRATED LOADS

THE EFFECT OF MODEL SCALE ON THE ULTIMATE SHEAR STRENGTH OF PARTIALLY RESTRAINED TWO-WAY SQUARE BRIDGE SLABS WITH ISOTROPIC REINFORCEMENT WAS INVESTIGATED. THE MODELS WERE SUBJECTED TO CONCENTRATED LOADS AND WERE FABRICATED WITH THE PERCENTAGE OF SLAB REINFORCEMENT RECOMMENDED BY TONG AND BATCHELOR FOR USE IN BRIDGE SLABS. AN IMPROVED METHOD OF ANALYSIS WAS PRESENTED, AND THE EFFECTS OF DEAL-LOAD COMPENSATION, SUPPORT CONDITIONS, SLAB CONTINUITY, AND SLAB REINFORCEMENT DISCONTINUITY WERE STUDIED. IT WAS SHOWN THAT A SCALE EFFECT DOES NOT RESULT PROVIDED THAT APPROPRIATE BASIC SLAB PARAMETERS ARE USED. /RATAOC/
