MOMENTS IN SIMPLY SUPPORTED SKEW SLABS: PART I, CURVATURE METER DESIGN AND EVALUATION
CURVATURE METERS ARE DESCRIBED WHICH WERE DEVELOPED AS A PART OF A PROJECT TO EVALUATE MOMENTS IN SKEW SLABS. THE METERS WERE USED TO EVALUATE BINDING MOMENTS IN GLASS PLATE MODELS. THE METHODS OF APPLICATION, MEASUREMENT AND CALIBRATION ARE DESCRIBED TOGETHER WITH AN EQUILIBRIUM TEST TO VALIDATE THE MOMENT VALUES OBTAINED FROM MEASUREMENTS. SOME DISADVANTAGES OF THE METERS ARE DISCUSSED. IT IS CONCLUDED HOWEVER, THAT THE METERS WHICH WERE DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR STUDIES ON MODEL BRIDGES ARE ACCEPTABLE FOR USE ON THE BASIS OF AN EQUILIBRIUM CHECK ON A SKEW PLATE. /RATAOC/
