RAPID ANALYSIS OF FRESH CONCRETE

AN INSTRUMENT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED TO DETERMINE THE CEMENT CONTENT OF UNHARDENED CONCRETE WITHIN FIVE MINUTES--THE MAXIMUM TIME CONSIDERED ECONOMICALLY FEASIBLE FOR DELAYING DISCHARGE FROM A MIXER OR READY-MIX TRUCK. THE BASIS OF THE METHOD IS THE SEPARATION OF CEMENT-FINENESS MATERIAL FROM THE FRESH CONCRETE BY WATER FLOW. THE LARGER PARTICLES REMAIN AND A 10 PERCENT SAMPLE OF THE RESULTING SLURRY IS TAKEN OFF, SIEVED, AND CONDITIONED TO SETTLE OUT THE SOLIDS, LEAVING A SAMPLE OF FIXED VOLUME WHICH IS THEN WEIGHED AND THE WEIGHT COMPARED WITH A CALIBRATION GRAPH TO OBTAIN THE CEMENT CONTENT. /HRIS/
