CORRELATION BETWEEN THE CREEP DEFORMATION AND STRESS RELAXATION IN CONCRETE

THE RELATION BETWEEN CREEP AND RELAXATION CAN BE EXPRESSED BY THE VOLTERRA INTEGRAL EQUATION. BY SUBSTITUTING THE "CREEP" AND "RELAXATION" FUNCTIONS IN THIS EQUATION AND BY COMPARING COEFFICIENTS, IT IS POSSIBLE TO OBTAIN AN EXPRESSION RELATING FINAL CREEP AND RELAXED STRESS TO TIME. THE RATE OF DECREASE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE EXPERIMENT IS PROPORTIONAL TO THE RATE OF CREEP; THE CONSTANT OF PROPORTIONALITY IS THE MODULUS OF ELASTICITY. IT IS SHOWN THAT THE HALF-TIME OF THE RELAXATION PROCESS IS ALWAYS SMALLER THAN THE CORRESPONDING ONE OF THE CREEP PROCESS. EQUATIONS DERIVED ARE COMPARED WITH EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS. /TRRL/
