PROPERTIES OF THICK BITUMINOUS COATINGS

THE PAPER DEALS WITH THE PROPERTIES, USES AND CHARACTERISTICS OF THICK PROTECTIVE BITUMINOUS COATINGS. ASPHALTIC MASTIC COATINGS USED AS PROTECTION FOR TANKS, FLOORS, AND ANY OTHER SURFACE EXPOSED TO CHEMICAL AGENTS ARE DESCRIBED. THESE COATINGS ARE APPLIED IN VERY THICK FILMS (10 MM OR MORE) AND ARE WIDELY USED FOR THE PROTECTION OF METALS, MORTARS AND CONCRETE. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF ASPHALTIC EMULSIONS USED AS MODERATELY THICK COATINGS (1-2 MM), MAINLY IN CIVIL ENGINEERING WORKS WHERE A LOW-COST LASTING TREATMENT IS NECESSARY. THE PROPERTIES AND APPLICATIONS OF EPOXY COAL-TAR-COATINGS ARE MENTIONED. THESE COATINGS, THE THICKNESS OF WHICH IS APPROXIMATELY 300-600 MICRONS, ARE EXCEPTIONALLY RESISTANT TO CHEMICAL AGENTS AND ARE WIDELY USED FOR THE PROTECTION OF MANY MATERIALS. /ATRRL/
