SOFT-GROUND TUNNELLING' DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION

THIS PAPER DEALS WITH VARIOUS DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES EMPLOYED IN SOFT-GROUND TUNNELLING. THE PAST DEVELOPMENT, AS WELL AS THE LATEST TRENDS, ARE DISCUSSED. THE FIRST PART OF THE PAPER DEALS WITH SHIELD-DRIVEN TUNNELS AND REVIEWS THE TUNNELLING SHIELD, COMPRESSED AIR AND GROUND TREATMENT, TUNNEL LINING, VEHICULAR TUNNELS. SUNKEN-TUBE TUNNELS ARE DESCRIBED IN THE SECOND PART OF THE PAPER. A GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE METHOD IS GIVEN. REVIEWING VARIOUS TYPES OF VEHICULAR TUNNELS. CONDITIONS WHICH AFFECT THE FEASIBILITY OF THIS METHOD ARE SUMMARIZED AND THE MORE IMPORTANT DETAILS OF THE CONSTRUCTION PROCEDURES ARE DISCUSSED.
