PROPOSED EQUATIONS FOR PRELIMINARY DESIGN OF CURVED BRIDGE SYSTEMS

A SET OF SIMPLE EMPIRICAL EQUATIONS TO BE USED FOR PRELIMINARY DESIGN OF CURVED GIRDER BRIDGES IS PRESENTED. THE SPAN LENGTHS VARYING FROM 50-100 FEET, LOADED WITH H20S44 TRUCK HAVE BEEN EXAMINED. THE EFFECTS OF THE CURVATURE (100-600' RADIUS) ON THE INTERNAL REACTIONS HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED. IN ORDER TO OBTAIN THE MAXIMUM VALUES OF THE BENDING MOMENTS AND STRESSES IN CURVED GIRDER SYSTEMS, A SET OF FACTORS HAS BEEN FORMULATED. BY MULTIPLYING THESE FACTORS BY THE RESULTS OBTAINED FROM THE ANALYSIS OF THE STRAIGHT GIRDER, THE STRESSES AND MOMENTS IN THE CURVED GIRDER SYSTEMS CAN BE FOUND. /BPR/
