ANALYSIS OF PORTLAND CEMENT BY ATOMIC ABSORPTION
CONTRARY TO THE INDICATIONS OF PREVIOUS STUDIES, ACCURATE ATOMIC ABSORPTION ANALYSES OF CEMENT ARE EASILY ATTAINABLE WHEN PROPER EQUIPMENT IS AVAILABLE AND COMPARISON STANDARDS ARE USED. ACID-DIGESTION OF THE SAMPLES AND NBS STANDARDS IS FOLLOWED BY A DILUTION STEP AND THEN A STANDARD-UNKNOWN- STANDARD BRACKETING TECHNIQUE. ACCURACIES FOR MOST ELEMENTS WERE FOUND TO BE SUFFICIENT FOR CONTROL PURPOSES. SILICA CANNOT BE ANALYZED BY THE TECHNIQUE DESCRIBED, BUT OTHER TECHNIQUES HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED FOR THIS ELEMENT. THE TIME REQUIRED FOR ANALYSIS IS ABOUT 1 1/2 HOURS FOR A SINGLE SAMPLE, LESS FOR MULTIPLE SAMPLES. /PCA/
