A SMALL PROBE-TYPE GAGE FOR MEASURING RELATIVE HUMIDITY

A SMALL PROBE-TYPE RELATIVE HUMIDITY GAGE, WHICH USES A DACRON THREAD AS THE MOISTURE SENSITIVE ELEMENT, HAS BEEN DEVISED. THE CHANGES IN LENGTH OF THE DACRON THREAD DUE TO CHANGES IN RELATIVE HUMIDITY ARE MEASURED BY DETERMINING THE RESULTING RESISTANCE CHANGES IN A FINE ADVANCE WIRE WHICH IS ATTACHED TO THE THREAD. THE GAGE WAS CALIBRATED AND THE REPRODUCIBILITY WAS DEMONSTRATED IN ATMOSPHERES OF KNOWN RELATIVE HUMIDITIES; THE PRACTICAL PERFORMANCE OF THE GAGE WAS EVALUATED BY MEASURING THE RELATIVE HUMIDITIES IN 3 SIZES OF MORTAR CYLINDERS AS THE CYLINDERS DRIED IN AN ATMOSPHERE OF 50 PERCENT RELATIVE HUMIDITY. /PCA/
