EXTENSIONS TO THE LONG-TIME STUDY OF CEMENT PERFORMANCE IN CONCRETE

SINCE THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE ORIGINAL LONG-TIME STUDY TEST INSTALLATIONS DURING 1941 AND 1942, A NUMBER OF ADDITIONAL INSTALLATIONS HAVE BEEN AUTHORIZED AND CONSTRUCTED. THIS REPORT DESCRIBES IN SOME DETAIL THE DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION, AND THE OBJECTIVES FOR EACH OF THE NEW INSTALLATIONS CONSTRUCTED. THE NEW PROJECTS INCLUDE: THE TOPEKA TEST ROAD COMPARING THE PERFORMANCE OF "OLD FASHIONED" AND "MODERN" CEMENTS; SULFATE SOIL EXPOSURES NEAR SACRAMENTO WITH TRICALCIUM ALUMINATE AND TYPE IS CEMENTS, POZZOLANS, AND WITH SPECIMENS MOIST CURED AT 73 AND 160 F; SEA WATER EXPOSURE AT SAN PEDRO OF BEAMS WITHOUT STEEL AND ALSO WITH VARIOUS DEPTHS OF COVER; AND FREEZE-THAW AND CHEMICAL DE-ICER TESTS AT SKOKIE OF SPECIMENS MADE WITH PORTLAND BLAST-FURNACE SLAG CEMENTS, CEMENT-POZZOLAN COMBINATIONS AND OTHER ADMIXTURES. /PCA/
