AIR CONTENT OF HARDENED CONCRETE BY A HIGH-PRESSURE METHOD
PORTABLE EQUIPMENT OF SPECIAL DESIGN IS DESCRIBED FOR THE DETERMINATION OF AIR CONTENT OF HARDENED CONCRETE BY A HIGH- PRESSURE METHOD. AIR CONTENTS DETERMINED WITH THIS APPARATUS, THE LINEAR TRAVERSE METHOD (ASTM C 457), AND THE PRESSURE METHOD (ASTM C 231) ARE COMPARED. CONCRETES TESTED COVERED A RANGE OF AIR CONTENTS UP TO 13% AND A VARIETY OF MIX DESIGNS. SPECIMEN SIZES INCLUDED 6 X 12-IN., 4 X 8-IN., AND 3 X 6-IN. CYLINDERS. RESULTS INDICATE THAT THE HIGH-PRESSURE METHOD PROVIDES REASONABLY GOOD DATA ON AIR CONTENTS WHEN COMPARED WITH RESULTS OBTAINED BY ASTM C 231. HOWEVER, WHEN COMPARED WITH THE LINEAR TRAVERSE METHOD THE RESULTS WERE COMPARABLE ONLY UP TO ABOUT 5% AIR CONTENT. /PCA/
